Our company can trace its origins to one of its founding members Francis Schembri, who started off in business as an entrepreneur in the catering and hospitality business, and eventually spreading his business interests to beer importation. He was a humble yet astute person, well known by his peers for his determination, perseverance and ambition.

In April 1987, together with his children, he formally formed Schembri Import and Export Ltd. The company originally expanded in the beer import segment, but soon after extended its importation business to first cover mineral water, and eventually other beverages. The early nineties saw the addition of confectionery and snack items being added to the list of products, coupled by a strong investment in the company’s distribution system.

1993 was a milestone for Schembri Import and Export, having obtained exclusivity of the Rauch brand. With ever-increasing demand and expansion of its operations, it was soon time for the company to invest in its storage facilities, which led to the transfer of its warehouse and operations to its current premises, enlarging its footprint tenfold.

Today, Schembri Import and Export is a market leader in the field, owning a good number of primary brands, including Rauch, Strathmore, Mama and Irn bru. The company is continually evolving, reflecting the founder’s ambitions, always retaining its focus on its clients.
